I've always loved fairy tales.
Not because they promise happily-ever-after. But they teach life's hardest lessons with such a gentle touch.
As a young girl, I found myself more captivated by the journey than the castles or princes. The characters faced challenges, met challengers, and grew wiser along the way. Each story shared a lesson that stayed with me long after I closed the book. As I get older, I see that fairy tales aren’t necessarily about perfect endings but about helping us prepare for real life. Life calls for bravery, even when it’s easier to stay in our comfort zones. Sometimes, they lost their way and doubted themselves, just like we do.
To trust again after disappointment.
To remain kind in a world that often rewards cynicism.
To believe that getting lost doesn't mean the story is over.
Those lessons don't fade when we become adults. They simply trade enchanted forests for everyday life.
Ironically, that's exactly why I found myself thinking about fairy tales while watching Love Island USA Season 8. If you had told me years ago that a reality dating show would make me reflect on hope, womanhood, and healing, I probably would have laughed. At first glance, Love Island seems like the perfect summer escape: attractive contestants, dramatic recouplings, unexpected twists, and lots of romance. But beneath all of that, there's something even more relatable. It's people trying to understand themselves while another person's heart is on the line.
I've enjoyed watching Love Island for many years. Even before it turned into the incredible cultural phenomenon it is today, it was just one of my favorite summer traditions. I looked forward to the romance, the friendships, the delightful chaos of Casa Amor, and I have to admit, I even spent quite a few hours playing the Love Island mobile game. (Bobby will always hold a special place in my heart.)
After Season 6, everything changed. The show suddenly gained massive popularity, drawing in millions of new viewers. This brought with it lively debates, strong opinions, and sky-high expectations. Every recoupling sparked discussion, and each contestant became either someone's favorite or someone else's villain. Social media turned each episode into a lively courtroom, where fans examined every facial expression, debated every decision, and analyzed interactions in real time. Sometimes it felt like we forgot these were real people experiencing complex emotions in a very unusual environment. That aspect fascinated me just as much as the show itself.
Slowly, I began to see that the conversations happening online weren’t just about Love Island; they were really a mirror of ourselves.
Our expectations.
Our experiences.
Our fears.
Our ideas about love.
The villa gently echoed the ways modern dating culture comes to life. As I enjoyed Season 8, I realized I wasn't just watching strangers look for connection—I was seeing conversations that many of us have gone through ourselves.
What does it really mean to "explore" while being mindful and respectful of someone else's feelings? It's all about finding a balance—being curious and open while showing kindness and understanding. By doing so, you create a safe space where both people can learn and grow together.
At what point does staying open to possibilities turn into avoiding facing your emotions?
Is it possible for two people to see the same relationship completely differently, yet both still be honest?
How can you stay open and genuine even after facing disappointment?
Have you ever wondered what intentional dating really means in today's world? It's all about being purposeful and genuine in your connections, making sure that your relationships are meaningful and aligned with your true values.

They weren't exclusive to the Islanders; many of us find ourselves asking them long after the cameras are gone. Maybe it wasn't because every relationship flourished or everyone made perfect choices. Instead, beneath the entertainment, I saw something profoundly human—ordinary, everyday women. Not flawless heroines or ideal role models, just women trying to navigate modern dating while staying true to themselves. That sense of familiarity really resonated with me. That's why this season truly struck a chord.
They stirred warm memories of chatting with friends over dinner, sharing stories with coworkers at lunch, and late-night calls where someone wonders if they asked for too much or too little. They also reminded us of women trying to balance independence and vulnerability, self-respect and openness, hope and self-protection. Maybe that's why so many people felt so emotionally connected this season. We weren't just picking our favorite contestants; we were seeing parts of ourselves in them.
One moment in particular stayed vivid in my mind long after the episode ended. Aniya expressed her desire for a fairy tale, wishing to be courted and pursued intentionally. KC gently pointed out that fairy tales aren’t entirely real and noted how the dating landscape has changed over time. Before long, social media chimed in, with some people calling Aniya's view unrealistic, others saying she was immature, and many feeling her expectations didn't quite match modern dating trends.
But I couldn't stop thinking...
Whenever I think of fairy tales, I don't picture perfection or a prince rushing in to save the day. I don't see them as stories without any conflict or setbacks. I've always viewed fairy tales a bit differently. To me, they’re cozy stories filled with meaningful lessons. They remind us of courage, hope, perseverance, and the importance of kindness.
Sometimes, holding on to faith, even after life, might make you wonder if you should keep believing. It's completely natural to have those feelings, and you're not alone in them.
That's why I've never sensed childishness in Aniya's words. Instead, I hear hope shining through. Perhaps, in our journey through life, we've come to confuse hope with naivety. Sometimes we mix up vulnerability with weakness and believe that expecting genuine intention makes someone seem naive. However, yearning to be treated with kindness and care isn't childish at all.
Desiring honest communication from someone is completely reasonable. And wanting romance doesn't mean you’re expecting everything to be perfect—it's all about finding joy in the genuine moments you share.
It simply means trusting that tenderness still holds a special place in modern dating. Maybe fairy tales didn't promise a happily-ever-after, but they inspired us to remain hopeful as we journey towards it.
Sometimes the Fairy Tale Begins After Heartbreak

What made Aniya's journey truly resonate with me wasn't just her eventual connection. It was everything that happened along the way. Like many of us navigating the complexities of modern dating, she began her journey with a clear vision of what she wanted. She approached it with purpose, sincerity, and honesty about the kind of relationship she was seeking. But her good intentions alone didn’t protect her from feeling disappointed at times. Watching how she handled uncertainty reminded me of an important lesson we often forget. Sometimes, even when we do everything 'right,' heartbreak can still find us. In today’s dating world, we’re often told that clear communication, healing, confidence, or self-love will naturally lead to everything falling into place. But in reality, life doesn't always work out that smoothly.
Sometimes, people just aren't quite the right match for each other.
Sometimes, things don't align perfectly, and the timing might be a bit off. It's completely normal and happens to everyone at some point.
Sometimes, it might feel like others can't quite meet you where you're at, but remember, everyone has their own journey. Be patient and understanding, knowing that their timing is different from yours.
Sometimes, the person you care about might not be the best choice for you. It’s okay to recognize that and take care of yourself. Remember, your well-being is important.
That doesn't mean either person is broken. It simply reminds us that everyone's story unfolds in its own beautiful way. That's why Aniya's connection with Carl felt so special—not because he came as a prince to save her, but because he embodied something much more real and relatable. A second chance.
Their relationship didn't erase the disappointment that came before it. Instead, it gently reminded us that disappointment isn't always the final word. On their last date, inspired by “The Princess and the Frog”, I found myself smiling through tears—the symbolism was just so perfect. I've loved “The Princess and the Frog” for many years because it quietly shows us that love isn't just about being saved; it's about growing as a person and discovering who we truly are before sharing our lives with someone. Watching Aniya and Carl on that epic date, I wasn't thinking about fairy tale endings. I was thinking about new beginnings. Maybe that's what second chances are all about—not a promise that everything will be perfect, but an open door to believe that life can still surprise us.
The Women Who Reflected So Many of Us

Aniya's journey continues to inspire me; what really captured my attention in Season 8 wasn't just the romance, but the depth of her experience.
It was the women.
Every woman who entered the villa brought something wonderfully unique. They each had their own backgrounds, personalities, ways of loving, fears, and hopes. Watching them was less like reality TV and more like witnessing a close-knit group of girlfriends supporting each other through one of life's most vulnerable moments. It was truly inspiring.
Among them, the Core Four—Aniya, Melanie, Trinity, and Kayda—really stood out to me. Not because they were perfect, but because they beautifully showed the many ways women go through love, heartbreak, self-discovery, and healing with such openness.
Aninya gently reminded me that vulnerability is actually a sign of strength—it's all about courage. Her inspiring journey demonstrated that opening your heart again after experiencing disappointment is not foolish at all; in fact, it's one of the bravest choices we can make. Though bouncing back after heartbreak can be tough, giving yourself permission to hope again is such a wonderful act of resilience that speaks to the power we all have within us.
Melanie's words truly touched me and made me feel more confident in myself, especially during times when life doesn't go as I had hoped. She gently reminded me that trusting your own instincts is just as important as trusting others. Often, the solutions are right there in front of us—we just need to believe in ourselves without always seeking someone else's approval.
Trinity quietly radiated confidence and a deep sense of self-worth. She gently encouraged us all to believe in ourselves, to embrace our honesty, and to remember that our true value should never be defined by someone else's opinion.
Kayda stood confidently in her identity. She clearly knew what she wanted, expressed her thoughts with conviction, and was never afraid to take up space. Her confidence served as a beautiful reminder that being authentic is one of the most wonderful qualities we can have.
Together, they blossomed into something truly special, even more meaningful than reality television personalities.
They became reflections of everyday women I've met in classrooms, the women I've worked alongside, and friends I've shared laughter and tears with over dinner. Their stories and presence have truly enriched my life.
Women who have doubted their worth, lingered too long, walked away when needed, begun new chapters, and kept believing that love should always be about mutual respect and staying true to oneself.
This beautiful friendship quickly grew into one of the most cherished moments of the season. Each woman loved in her own unique way. Each communicated in her own special manner. Each brought her own strengths, insecurities, dreams, and life stories into the villa. Despite their differences, they created something warm, genuine, and wonderfully familiar.

Friendships are beautifully imperfect. They come with misunderstandings, growth challenges, and tough conversations. But that's all part of the journey of loving and connecting with others. Through each interaction, we discover more about ourselves, and together we grow. Seeing the Core Four in action reminded me that friendship isn't about being perfect; it's about showing up every day with honesty, kindness, and love.
In a culture that often tells women their greatest story is finding romantic love, these women reminded me that some of our most meaningful love stories are the friendships that help us rediscover ourselves.
Sometimes, the women standing beside us remind us of who we truly are, long before anyone else ever does.
Reflecting on their journeys, I felt that this season gently reminded us of the valuable lessons we've learned from the women who raised us. It’s a beautiful reminder of the wisdom and strength they've shared.
One of my favorite moments came during Family Day when Melanie's mother shared a simple but powerful reminder:
"Why give someone too many chances when there's someone waiting for their first?"
Those words really stuck with me because they echoed the advice my own mother has been sharing with me all my life.
It's important to recognize and appreciate people for their true selves, rather than just their potential. When someone consistently shows who they really are, take it to heart and believe them. Remember, sometimes prioritizing yourself isn't about giving up; it's about choosing your own peace and happiness.
Watching this season reminded me of truths that often get lost in modern dating.
Follow your instincts. Trust your feelings instead of doubting them. Don't hesitate to pursue what you desire. You're not asking for too much—perhaps you're just asking the wrong person.
Remember, actions always speak louder than words. While anyone can say what you want to hear, it's the way they consistently show up that really shows how they honestly feel.
Prioritize peace and embrace the present. When dating, get to know people for who they truly are today, rather than holding onto hopes of who they might become in the future.
Always prioritize safety over rushing. Remember, the strongest relationships are those where you truly feel comfortable and free to be yourself, not just the ones that have been around the longest.
Focus on noticing patterns rather than just one-off moments. Staying consistent usually paints a much more genuine picture than mere promises ever could.
If you find yourself often unsure of your position, maybe that's a sign. Healthy love brings clarity, not ongoing doubt.
Most importantly, remember that love should always nurture and uplift you, never compromise your self-worth, confidence, values, dreams, or peace. It's so important to prioritize your well-being in every romantic connection.
It should never come at the cost of your light.
Even though today's dating scene often seems to move fast, I've come to see that it's perfectly okay to take things slow. True, lasting connections aren't always sparked by fireworks. More often, they start with friendship, respect, a sense of emotional safety, and the freedom to just be your authentic self.
Maybe that's what healthy love really looks like.
Not rushed.
Not confusing.
Not exhausting.
Just...safe.
As I reached the finale, I realized something else.
Perhaps fairy tales were never just about finding Prince Charming.
Sometimes the fairy tale is discovering the career you've always dreamed about.
Sometimes it's finding financial freedom.
Sometimes it's building lifelong friendships.
Sometimes it's creating a peaceful life you're proud of.
Sometimes it's finally learning to love yourself.
And yes, sometimes it's finding romantic love.
Remember, no dream, relationship, or happily ever after should ever ask you to give up your self-worth, your voice, your vision, or the light that makes you uniquely you. You deserve to stay true to yourself and shine brightly always.
My mother often shares that it's okay to kiss a few frogs before discovering your prince. It’s a comforting reminder to stay hopeful and patient on your journey. Remember, each step brings you closer to where you're meant to be.
As I've grown older, I’ve started to truly understand what she really meant.
Remember, the journey is about personal growth, not just about impressing others or being chosen by someone. As Melanie wisely pointed out, “Being picked is not the prize.” Keep focusing on becoming the best version of yourself, and the right opportunities will follow.
It's all about embracing the best version of yourself so that, when the right people, whether friends, family, or a partner, come into your life, you'll never feel the need to hide your light just to be loved. Remember, being authentic is the most beautiful thing you can offer.
Maybe that's the fairy tale we've been searching for all along.
When the Mirror Turned Toward Me
At some moment this season, I felt the mirror subtly turn toward me. For the past few years, I consciously chose to stay away from dating. Whenever someone asked why, I’d simply say, "I'm focusing on myself." And honestly, that was true.
Over the years, I've learned more about who I am outside of a relationship, discovering how to truly enjoy my own company and understanding that my worth isn't determined by whether someone chooses me. Slowly, I built a relationship with myself based on confidence rather than seeking validation from others. For that, I feel so grateful. Watching these women put themselves out there, facing rejection, uncertainty, and disappointment, made me question something I hadn't expected. Was I simply protecting my peace? Or was fear quietly convincing me that it was safer to avoid the risk of getting hurt again? That realization was actually freeing, not painful. It’s interesting how healing and fear can sometimes look so similar.
Both create distance.
Both encourage caution.
Both tell us to slow down.
What sets healing apart is its gentle invitation to re-enter life with open arms. Fear, on the other hand, prefers us to stay in the shadows. Unknowingly, I created my own small tower—not because someone put me there, but because disappointment softly persuaded me it was safer. Watching these women was a beautiful reminder that courage isn’t always about finding love; sometimes, it’s about giving yourself permission to hope again, even after you've been hurt.
The Ending That Stayed With Me
When the finale finally came, I had an unexpected realization. I wasn't thinking about who would win. I wasn't even thinking about which couple would leave together. Instead, I couldn't help but smile at everything unfolding around the romance.
The hugs.
The laughter.
The families meeting one another.
The women cheering for each other's happiness.
The couples reflected on how much they had grown since the first day they entered the villa. Somewhere between those final moments, Love Island stopped feeling like a competition. It simply felt...Human. It reminded me that growth rarely looks perfect while we're living it. People make mistakes. They misunderstand one another. They choose wrong. They apologize. They begin again.
Maybe that's why this season stayed with me long after the finale. Not because it gave me a perfect love story. But because it reminded me that life doesn't ask us to be perfect. It asks us to remain open.
Open to growth.
Open to friendship.
Open to second chances.
Open to ourselves.
Perhaps that is the lesson fairy tales have always aimed to impart. Not that every dream comes true. Not that every relationship lasts forever. Not that every ending is happy. But that getting lost doesn't mean the story is over. The forest isn't the end of the journey. It's often where the greatest lessons are learned.
Watching Love Island USA this summer reminded me that, although modern dating might appear different from the stories I grew up with, the underlying lessons are still the same. It still takes courage to be vulnerable. It still takes hope to trust again. It still takes grace to become the person you're meant to be.
Life is messy.
Love is messy.
Growth is messy.
Think of grace as a gentle reminder that everyone is still on their journey of becoming. It's a warm acknowledgment that growth and change never stop, and that patience and understanding are always welcomed. Each Islander stepped into the villa carrying their own unique stories, insecurities, hopes, and hidden challenges. Some of their choices resulted in beautiful connections, filling the space with warmth and friendship. Others, naturally, brought disappointment—which we all experience at times. Even if we don't agree with certain decisions, I truly believe that no single moment defines who someone truly is. Every person's journey is a rich tapestry of many experiences. We all share responsibility for our choices, but we also hold a wonderful duty to learn from them and grow. Embracing this outlook can make our journey more meaningful and truly enriching. Isn’t that also true for life? Remember, none of us are solely defined by our worst decisions. We all possess the strength to grow beyond past mistakes and to improve. We are the ongoing story, continually writing new chapters with each step we take together.
But perhaps that's what makes the story beautiful.

Congratulations, Bryce and Trinity!
As the final votes came in, Bryce and Trinity joyfully became the winners of Love Island USA Season 8. Let's celebrate their well-earned victory and wish them all the best as they begin their next chapter together beyond the villa. Watching Bryce and Trinity rejoice, while Aniya and Carl, Melanie and Sincere, and Kayda and Zach reflected on their own journeys, was a beautiful reminder that not every meaningful story ends with first place. Love Island is about more than discovering romantic love. It’s about so many other things, too. It’s about loving ourselves, building genuine friendships, and having the courage to open our hearts again. Love isn't limited to one relationship; it's found in the people who lift us up, the friends who stand by us during uncertain times, and the moments when we choose ourselves without closing our hearts to others.
